Duke University EMS carries a wide assortment of medical supplies to provide the highest level of care for all our patients.

Our primary "Jump Bag" carries nearly all the supplies needed to handle an adult emergency, including the following:

Oxygen Cylinder

Non-Rebreather Mask: Delivers nearly 100% oxygen to patients, used primarily for patients in respiratory distress or with severe trauma

Nebulizer Mask/Albuterol: Allows us to give continuous albuterol treatments to patients having an Asthma attack

Bag-Valve Mask: Device which allows EMTs to ventilate patients who are not breathing or not breathing adequately

Oropharyngeal Airways (OPA): Simple airway devices that are inserted into the mouth of patients without a gag reflex, they prevent the patient's tongue from becoming an airway obstruction

Nasopharyngeal Airways (NPA): Simple airway devices inserted through the patient's nose that pass behind the tongue, allowing EMTs to maintain an airway in unresponsive patients who still have a gag reflex

King Airways: Duke EMS has just started utilizing the King Airway as our "Blind Insertion Airway Device", replacing the Combitube. The King Airway is designed to be placed into the esophagus, while a series of cuffs directs air into the lungs.

Glucometer: Determines blood sugar in patients with altered mental status
